The Basics

Q: What is Fantasy Baseball?
A: Fantasy Baseball gives you the opportunity to run your own team of professional baseball players. You draft your team of the best players from across the MLB and receive points based on those players' performance in MLB games each week of baseball season. You set weekly lineups, propose, accept and reject trades, sign free agents, and compete against other teams in your league. If you have a group of friends you can form your own league using Baseball Commissioner. You can also join one of our existing Fantasy Baseball 2009 baseball leagues.

Q: What is the difference between your Fantasy Baseball 2009 game and the Baseball Commissioner product?
A: If you want to create a fantasy baseball league for a group of your friends, Baseball Commissioner lets you set up and run the league. Acting as the league commissioner you can customize the scoring system; the rules and the schedule based on your wants and needs. In Fantasy Baseball 2009, you can own a team in an already existing league and compete against other users. For those leagues, we act as commissioner and set all the rules for you. You simply manage your team and try to beat the rest of the league.

Q: How much does it cost to play?
A: There are five versions of CBSSports.com Fantasy Baseball 2009. The Gold version costs $29.95 per team, with a $150 league champion prize! The Platinum version costs $99.95 per team, with a $600 league champion prize! The Diamond version costs $249.95 per team, with a $1600 league champion prize! The Double Diamond version costs $499.95 per team, with a $3500 league champion prize! We also offer a free version of the single game, which is Free Fantasy Baseball.

Q: How do I join a league?
A: There are three ways to join a league: First, you can start your own league, and invite 9 of your friends to join. Second, you can join a league by email invitation. Third is by joining an existing league. Please Note: If the league doesn't have 10 members by the day of the draft, your league will be disbanded.

Q: Can I play in the same league with my friends?
A:  Yes. You can create a "private" league, set a league password and tell your friends to join. If you already have an existing league, and want to make all the rules and act as commissioner, you should check out CBSSports.com's Baseball Commissioner.

Q: What is the difference between Head to Head and Roto leagues?
A:  In Head to Head, Contest also offers a weekly Head-to-Head scoring option. During each week (Monday-Sunday, with the exception of Week 1 which takes place from Sunday-Sunday), two teams face each other in a Head-to-Head matchup. Each team earns points based on statistics accumulated by its players that week.

In a 10-team Rotisserie league, your team is awarded points according to its order of finish in each statistical category. Your team's point totals for each category are then added together for your team's overall score, and standings are based on these overall scores. The first-place team in a statistical category (e.g., Home Runs) gets 10 points, second-place 9 points, and so on with the last-place team in the category getting 1 point. If two teams are tied within a category, each team receives an average of the total points available; so if two team tie for first place in a category, each team gets 9.5 points rather than 10 to the first-place team and 9 to the second-place team. For details, please see the game's. Official Rules.

Team Management

Q: What are E-Reports?
A:  You can schedule e-mail delivery of all the reports in your Fantasy league. When the reports arrive in your inbox, we refer to them as E-Reports. This includes statistics and standings reports, as well as news updates about your players and more. You can even have customized reports e-mailed. For instance, let's say you need a catcher. Sort the free agent report to display the top scoring Cs available at the top, then have the report e-mailed every week.

Q: Will I have access to the latest MLB news and injury reports?
A:  Absolutely. We post player news as it happens along with strategic analysis to help team owners make the right lineup decisions. Also a list of all current MLB injuries and playing status is right on your league's site. Plus we have a full editorial schedule, with Fantasy articles and analysis from our experts throughout every week.

Q: How do Waivers work?
A:  To provide an equal opportunity for all owners to add players to their roster, a waivers process is implemented. Requests for players who are on Waivers are not executed immediately, but are put in a pending status. This allows multiple teams to request the same players. Each night between midnight and 9AM ET, CBSSports.com will process all of the pending requests. The order in which these requests are processed is based on the Waiver Rank of each team.

Any player who is dropped from a team during an add/drop transaction is considered to be on waivers until one waivers process is completed without that player being claimed. At that point, the player is considered a free agent, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All players who are not drafted will also be on waivers once your draft ends.

Q: How do Trades work?
A:  In an effort to prevent collusion among owners, and to ensure fair competition, a trade approval process is used. After a trade is made, it will be in pending status for at least 24 hours. If 4 owners in your league object to the trade within the pending time period, the trade will not be executed, but will go to the Commissioner for final approval. If 4 owners do not object before the pending period is up, then your trade will be processed. As an example, a trade made at 5 PM ET Tuesday will not execute at 5 PM ET Wednesday, but will be processed between midnight and 5 AM Thursday morning. Therefore, all trades must be made (i.e., accepted by both parties involved) prior to 11.59 PM ET each Saturday night to be effective for the following week. However, trades in which 4 or more owners object are then subject to Commissioner approval, and may NOT be effective for the upcoming period. Please always check your team Monday morning. For details, please see the game's. Official Rules.
